My FIL Constantly Insults My MIL In Public, But She Made Him Regret It

My FIL (68M) has long mocked my MIL (65F) with “jokes.” I stayed quiet at their house, but last night at ours, with our kids (10F, 7M) at dinner, he called her “useless” and “more trouble than she’s worth.”

I started to intervene, but MIL stared him down: “Say it again, and I’ll tell them about 1998.” She revealed he cheated with her best friend while pregnant with their youngest, and drained savings to “help” the woman. MIL secretly borrowed money to keep the family afloat for a year.

My husband (38M) was stunned; I sent the kids to play. FIL didn’t deny it—just muttered, grabbed his coat, and left without apology.

MIL cried but seemed relieved after decades of silence; she refused to be humiliated before grandkids.

Husband had suspicions but now rages yet wavers: “He’s still Dad.” He’s torn on low/no-contact.

I’m furious for MIL and don’t want kids near someone who calls Grandma “trash” at our table.

Would it be wrong to tell my husband his dad is never welcome here again?
