My Stepson Wants to Move in—but I Had Ground Rules He Refuses to Follow

I’m struggling with my husband’s 15-year-old son from a previous relationship. Our blended family usually gets along, but his mom’s hospitalization forced him to move in temporarily with us—no other family available.
He never liked me, but I welcomed him, setting three simple rules for a smooth household:
- Sleep on the sofa temporarily—our two daughters share one room, my husband and I the other; the guest room’s storage, so adjustments are needed first.
- No screens after 9:30 PM; 9 PM curfew—to ensure good sleep and safety, like for my kids.
- No friends over—my daughters might feel uneasy with strangers, especially amid changes.
He got upset, stormed off, and complained to my husband that I was unfair. This sparked tension between us.
I’m torn: I want him to feel safe and loved during his tough time, but these boundaries protect our family’s well-being. Was I too rigid? How can I navigate this thoughtfully while keeping peace?
Advice appreciated!
