Mitt Romney’s Sister-In-Law Found Dead Behind Southern California Parking Garage
Carrie Romney, 64, sister-in-law of former senator and governor Mitt Romney, was found dead on Friday evening near a parking garage in the Town Center area of Santa Clarita, a suburb north of Los Angeles, local officials announced Monday. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the death, with preliminary findings suggesting she may have fallen or jumped from the garage near the Hyatt Regency Hotel, where her body was discovered just after 9 p.m. The cause of death is listed as “deferred” pending toxicology reports, which could take months, according to the Los Angeles County medical examiner. Authorities do not currently suspect foul play, per KTLA.
Carrie was married to Mitt Romney’s older brother, George “Scott” Romney, 81, a prominent Michigan attorney and father of former Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel. Scott filed for divorce on June 10, citing irreconcilable differences, and noted in the filing that most of their assets were acquired separately before the marriage. He opposed spousal support for Carrie and requested she revert to her maiden name, Carrie Elizabeth Dimas, according to the Daily Mail. Scott currently works at Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn and serves on several boards, including Compuware Corporation, per the New York Post.
