I Prohibited My Husband to Send Money to His Mom, Now She Says I Ruined Her Life

My husband Matteo (31M) and I (33F) have been married 4 months, together 3 years. During dating, his mom often called him for $2-6K, which he gave freely from his high-paying job. His dad (FIL) is a successful businessman with joint accounts, so it seemed odd.

Upon engagement, we agreed he’d stop; he did, and requests ceased.

Last Tuesday, MIL demanded $15K from him for a vacation. He refused; she texted me accusing me of meddling in her mother-son bond. I ignored it and asked Matteo if his parents had money issues—he said no.

Today, FIL and SIL visited for lunch. While picking wine, I casually asked FIL if things were okay at home. Matteo revealed the calls. Shocked, FIL explained MIL had secretly taken cash from him last year, claiming it was for our wedding (she contributed nothing).

FIL stormed out. Hours later, MIL called crying, blaming me for ruining her life with my “big mouth.” FIL sent us a check to repay everything and separated temporarily until trust rebuilds. Now, Matteo’s maternal relatives are harassing us, calling me the villain.
