When a Mother Realized Her Son Had Changed, She Found Strength in Herself

When my son moved in with his girlfriend, I envisioned weekend visits and shared dinners, expecting our close bond to endure. But months passed without contact. My calls went unanswered, my messages ignored. I sent money to ease his burdens, but the silence grew, each rejection a small cut. I realized our connection meant more to me than to him.

Last week, he finally answered, but his cold, rushed voice told me to stop calling so much. Those words stung, closing the door on the bond I’d clung to. I knew I had to prioritize my well-being.

So, I stopped waiting. I joined a book club, started volunteering, and surrounded myself with people who value me. The pain of his distance lingers, but it’s taught me a vital lesson: love shouldn’t be one-sided. Healing comes from letting go of those who won’t meet us halfway and embracing relationships and passions that bring joy.
