My Son Paid for Me during Our Family Trip but Then His Ultimatum Just Killed Me

My son Gideon invited me on a family vacation, his treat, to a city known for romance, not family fun. I agreed, stipulating no babysitting—I needed a break. Linda packed my bags, and the trip started wonderfully, filled with family time and cultural exploration. I cherished moments with my grandkids, Byron and Lucas, but evenings were mine to unwind.
On day four, Gideon asked me to babysit so he and Ava could visit a kid-unfriendly site, breaking our agreement. Shocked, I reminded him this was my vacation too. He accused me of being ungrateful, insisting I owed them for the “free” trip. Hurt, I stood firm, but the argument left me heartbroken. That night, I stayed in, feeling betrayed.
The next morning, I couldn’t stay. I left a note expressing love but explaining my need to set boundaries. At the airport, Gideon’s angry texts accused me of ruining the trip. Our relationship grew strained, leaving me questioning if I overreacted.
Was I right to leave? Should I have stayed? As Linda, I’d have stayed but enforced boundaries calmly, prioritizing family unity while protecting my needs. What would you do? Share on Facebook!
