Camp Mystic counselor Emma Foltz helps save 14 campers in Texas flood

The catastrophic flash flood along Texas’ Guadalupe River has claimed 81 lives across six counties, with 27 campers and counselors lost at Camp Mystic, a Christian girls’ summer camp near Kerrville. President Trump has declared a major disaster for Kerr County as rescue efforts continue for those still missing.
Amid the tragedy, stories of heroism have emerged. Emma Foltz, a counselor at Camp Mystic, is being hailed for saving 14 campers’ lives. A senior at Louisiana Tech, Foltz, who has served at the camp for three years, acted swiftly to evacuate the girls to safety. Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry praised her bravery on X, calling her efforts “instrumental.”
Camp Mystic’s statement expressed heartbreak and requested prayers for the affected families, noting ongoing coordination with authorities to locate missing girls.
Survivor Amanda Sue Jones recounted to CNN the flood’s rapid onset, describing a “wall of water” that overwhelmed the camp in minutes, catching many off guard.
