A Husband Took His Wife to the Hospital to Give Birth – She Died in His Arms After Delivering Their Second Child

On December 12, 2022, Jared and Caitlyn Wilson arrived at a Buffalo hospital for the birth of their son, Gabriel. What began as a routine induction turned tragic. During delivery, Gabriel’s arm caused a uterine cord prolapse, compressing the umbilical cord and necessitating an emergency C-section. Gabriel was safely delivered, but Caitlyn faced complications. General anesthesia, required due to an ineffective epidural, led to aspiration of stomach fluids into her lungs. Post-surgery, she struggled with pain, coughing, and inflamed airways,
compounded by prior bronchitis. Despite initial stability, her condition deteriorated. In the ICU, increasing oxygen needs and lung inflammation led to intubation. Post-intubation, her health plummeted—blood pressure dropped, white blood cell count surged, and blood clots formed, causing obstructive and septic shock. Despite aggressive treatment, Caitlyn coded twice. On December 22, Jared, an anesthesiologist, called the code, ending resuscitation efforts. Left to raise their sons alone, Jared finds solace in their love, honoring Caitlyn’s memory.
